PONTIAN: Police smashed an illegal 4-D gambling syndicate and seized over RM200,000 in betting slips and arrested nine people, including six women.

Police raided a house along Jalan Bukit in Taman Sui here and seized an array of items on Saturday evening.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hussin Ismail said the syndicate accepted bets totalling RM1mil each week and the raid was the largest operation in the district this year.

“We also recovered equipment worth about RM40,000,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

DCP Hussin said the syndicate had been operating for two months and might be linked to other gambling syndicates.

He said the nine suspects, aged between 18 and 47, were all locals and had no previous police record.
