A MANDATORY jail sentence is being sought for those who break environmental laws because the courts were currently not imposing heavy sentences for such offences.
Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk S. Sothinathan said although current laws stated that a maximum RM500,000 fine or a five-year jail sentence could be meted out, the courts had not imposed the maximum sentence.
