OPPOSITION MPs took advantage of a new clause against misleading the House under the Standing Order to get at Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

Chong Chieng Jen (DAP – Bandar Kuching) started the ball rolling when he questioned whether Samy Vellu’s answer on the setting up of restrooms and restaurants along the Pan Borneo Highway was truthful.

“There is no highway in Sarawak,” he said.

Samy Vellu replied that several sections of the highway had been completed and once linked would be known as the Pan Borneo Highway.

“I know the law better then you do. Sit down, I am not going to give you face,” he said.

Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang (DAP – Ipoh Timur) also cited the provision in reference to International Trade and Industry parliamentary secretary Datin Paduka Tan Yew Kew.

“She did not answer properly,” he said.

Samy Vellu tried to go to Tan's rescue and but Lim said “this is like an MIC sandiwara.”

The minister retorted: “DAP also has a sandiwara but it is a silent one. At least ours is an open sandiwara.”
