JOHOR BARU: Fantabulous of SMK (P) Sultan Ibrahim won Cheer South 2006 cheerleading competition with some excellent coordination and precise movements.
We worked so hard for this competition. We spent at least seven hours a day for two weeks training and perfecting our dance routines, said Fantabulous captain Lily Ezatul Yulisma, 16.
Lily Ezatul said they had focussed their training on timing their dance routines.
We will now practice even more and hopefully we will do well in (the finals in) Kuala Lumpur, she said, adding that the team motto was smile all the way no matter what challenges come your way.
Fantabulous and second-placed Queens of Dance of SMK Convent Johor Baru (formerly Convent Holy Infant Jesus) would lead the southern charge at the national finals at Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil on July 1 and 2.
Queens of Dance captain, who gave her name as Victoria, said the team members were rather disappointed to come out second.
We did our best but now we will focus in becoming champion at the national final, she said.
Damian Drazkiawicz, a judge from Leeds, England, said the winning team showed confidence and hardly made mistakes.
The girls were simply fantastic and showed awesome spirit, said Drazkiawicz.
Lianne Weston, also an English judge, said:
They have good basics but they must work on their technique. The more they train, the better they will become.
Eunomy of SM Taman Tun Aminah came in third while Whiz-Kid of SMK Bandar Baru Uda scooped the best-dressed award.
Fantabulous received RM2,000, Queens of Dance RM1,500 and Eunomy RM1,000.
