KUALA LUMPUR: The last time a Queen’s Counsel was admitted in Malaysia for a high-profile case was in 2001 when the Court of Appeal allowed Geoffrey Robertson to represent Asian Wall Street Journal correspondent Raphael Pura in four multi-million ringgit defamation suits.
MBf Capital Bhd, Insas Bhd and Megapolitan Nominees Sdn Bhd, businessman Tan Sri Vincent Tan and lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam were suing Pura over an article entitled Malaysian Justice on Trial published in the November 1995 issue of the International Commercial Litigation Magazine which commented, among other things, on several controversial judgments and judicial integrity in Malaysia.
