EVERY Indian family must strive to produce a doctor. This is the vision of educational institution Sri Murugan Centre (SMC), Tamil Kural reported.

SMC executive director Datuk M. Thambirajah said education must be the priority for the Indians.

Speaking at the launch of a dedicated programme to produce excellent students in Brickfields, he said parents should inculcate religious values in their children as well as ensure a conducive environment for them to study.

“They must allocate a special place at home where their children can concentrate on their studies,” he said.

Thambirajah added that parents or children who had problems could refer to the SMC, which would try to assist them where possible.

Last year, 88 students who had taken tuition at SMC scored at least six As in the UPSR examination, 92 students had 7As in the PMR and 20 others scored 3As and above in the STPM.

The four Tamil newspapers – Tamil Nesan, Tamil Kural, Malaysia Nanban and Makkal Osai – gave prominent coverage to the MIC Youth and Wanita MIC elections as well as to the devastating earthquake in Yogyakarta.
