KOTA KINABALU: The low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT)in Kota Kinabalu is expected set to be ready in about six months.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said the turnkey contractor Global Upline Sdn Bhd was confident of completing the LCCT terminal by year-end if all parties involvedgave their full cooperation.

“The LCCT terminal building is needed urgently to meet growing passenger and budget aircraft movements,” Chan said at the ground breaking ceremony for Package II of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport redevelopment and expansion project.

“It will ease the burden on the main terminal building and will be used exclusively to cope with the increasing number of travellers using budget airlines like AirAsia,” said Chan.

He expects to see more direct flights from other Asean and Far East countries to Sabah.
