KUALA LUMPUR: There is low awareness of human rights in secondary schools and some 73% of students do not even know of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) which was set up in 2000.
Most teachers and administrators were aware of Suhakam. However, only 6.2% of teachers had been briefed on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and 87.1% thought it was passed by Parliament.
