IPOH: Tenders for proposed projects under the Ninth Malaysia Plan will be called from next month, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

However, the Public Works Department will first identify the projects that ought to be given priority, he added.

The tenders will be put up on the website of the Construction Industry Development Board, he told reporters before opening the Perak MIC state convention here yesterday.

“We have prepared the plans for several projects and had also appointed consultant engineers. We are ready to start work anytime and are only waiting for the allocations,” he said.

Samy Vellu said 280 road projects that cost a total of RM17.3bil had been approved under the 9MP.

Of these, 180 projects costing about RM10.7bil had been brought forward from the Eighth Plan.

Samy Vellu said another RM1.3bil had been approved for 98 building and infrastructure projects.

On the second link for Penang, he said there had been a decision on the alignment for the proposed RM3bil bridge and the state government could now start on its land reclamation work.
