COPS CLAIM TRIAL TO ROBBERY CHARGE: Three policemen claimed trial to robbing a woman of her cash and belongings last year. Magistrate Nazran Mohd Sham set bail at RM6,500 for each accused and fixed June 7 for mention. Mohd Nazri Abd Rahim, 20; K.Vediveloo, 24 and Muhamad Azizi Musa, 27, were said to have robbed G. Jayam, 45, of RM272, a cellphone worth RM600, 20 VCDs worth RM200 and two gold rings worth RM800 at Jalan Genting Klang in Setapak on Oct 5.
ARMED TRIO ROB FAMILY: Three men armed with knives and a parang robbed a family near Jalan Salleh in Muar of five handphones, gold jewellery and cash, totalling RM20,000, before dawn yesterday. Muar criminal investigation s department chief Deputy Supt Chen Tek Lee said the robbers surprised the family of 10 at about 4am, tied them up and robbed them before fleeing.
MAN ADMITS HURTING GIRLFRIEND: Kicking and punching his girlfriend's face and threatening to kill her if she left him landed Loo Kien Meng, 33, in a magistrate's court yesterday. He admitted to hurting and threatening gold shop assistant Saik Chee Lim, 27, at a house in Jalan Kuchai Lama in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. He will be sentenced on May 30.
ISLAMIC BANKING HUB: Malaysia has the potential to be an Islamic banking hub within five years, Bank Negara deputy governor Datuk Zamani Abdul Ghani said in Langkawi. Compared with other countries in the region, Malaysia has a comprehensive Islamic banking system, he said.
