Roofs of seven houses blown away

THE roofs of seven houses were blown away by strong winds during a thunderstorm last Saturday morning in Kampung Batu 32 along the Beruas-Taiping road, Tamil Nesan reported. 

It said that the roofs were blown more than 600m away. . 

Beruas MP Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik, accompanied by Beruas MIC division chief V. Sivasamy, visited the village and promised to assist the affected families, it added. 

Tamil Kural reported the protest by a group of 120 workers of an oil palm research station in Kuala Selangor over the management's decision to withdraw the food allowance. 

It said the workers were getting RM540 per month, with RM50 deducted for transport and another RM2 for medical benefits. The workers claimed that the management deducted their salary for any mistakes. 

They said that the management had also withdrawn the RM26 food allowance and they were required to purchase highly priced food at a canteen. 

Tamil Kural said the management had also not recognised the medical certificates issued by the Government hospital, and payment for treatment at private clinics were also not re-imbursed.
