Two claim trial to cheating charge

MALACCA: A clerk and a technician claimed trial in a magistrate’s court here yesterday to cheating the Malacca Islamic Religious Affairs Council of RM486,500.  

Mazrin Abd Aziz, 20, of Taman Seri Serindit, was alleged to have induced the council to pay the sum by showing a letter requesting partial payment for the council's new complex in Bukit Baru on behalf of Uni Integrated Construction Sdn Bhd.  

The offence was allegedly committed at 8am on Aug 26 last year at the council’s office in Graha Maju where a cheque for that sum was handed to him. 

Khairul Mukhzani Khairuddin, 26, a technician from Kampung Seberang Batu Hampar, Rembau, Negri Sembilan, was alleged to have abetted Mazrin at 10.45am on Sept 6 last year at the Maybank branch in Jalan Munshi Abdullah here. 

Magistrate Elsie Primus fixed bail at RM6,000 in one surety for both accused. Hearing was fixed for Nov 7.
