SEPARATED FROM HERD: The wild elephant which attacked a rubber tapper in Kampung Masjid, Naka, is believed to have been separated from its herd. Kedah Wildlife and National Parks Department director Rahim Ahmad said this was based on the discovery of an elephant’s footprints at the rubber smallholding where Mohd Yusni Mohd Yunan, 26, was attacked by the animal at about 4am on Sunday. Mohd Yusni suffered three broken ribs as well as wounds on his chest and right thigh.
BEAR VICTIM: A 67-year-old farmer is believed to have been attacked and killed by a bear in the interior Ranau jungle at the foothills of Mount Kinabalu. Villagers stumbled across the badly decomposed body of Kotin Inggaou late Monday and found on him numerous scratch marks believed to be caused by the claws of a bear. There were numerous scratch marks of a bear on trees near where the body was found, as well as tufts of the animal's fur.
