Sinful to dissolve assembly, says Nik Aziz

IT would be sinful to dissolve the Kelantan State Assembly, Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat said.

In a one-on-one interview with Mingguan Malaysia following Barisan Nasional's victory in the Pengkalan Pasir by-election, Nik Aziz said he would be betraying the trust given by the people to rule the state if he dissolved the assembly.

“The trust was given during the general election and not the by-election. I will be questioned in the after-world. Even now, I will be asked why tok guru (himself) resigned,” he said.

Nik Aziz said the pressure on him to dissolve the assembly was illogical and unconstitutional.

He said even with a one-seat majority, there was nothing that could undermine the current state government from staying in power.

“We are not affected at all. We still have the majority,” he said.

He said PAS would continue to rule because that was what the voters wanted.

“It is another matter if people from PAS want me to resign but when Umno asks me to resign, I will remain steadfast.

“I feel as if I am a bone in Umno's throat and when I am told to resign, I realise that I am very much feared by Umno,” he said.

When asked if this meant that PAS did not accept Barisan's victory in Pengkalan Pasir as a sign that the people of Kelantan were rejecting PAS rule, Nik Aziz instead questioned whether it was fair to believe that the people of Kelantan had rejected PAS rule.

“Or was it because of phantom voters? As you know, Umno won because of postal votes,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a one-on-one interview with Berita Minggu, Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Seri Annuar Musa said he no longer wanted to dwell on the issue of dissolving the state assembly.

“We have given our views during campaigning. We respect PAS' views on the matter but from a moral perspective, the state government no longer has the support of the people although technically, they can still form government.

“It may be better for us to leave PAS to defend themselves in their own way while we focus on serving the people for voting for Barisan.”
