KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Mint and Pos Malaysia have come out with commemorative coins and stamps in conjunction with the 11th Asean Summit.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi launched the commemorative coins and stamps at the East Asia Business Exhibition ‘05 yesterday.

The coins with a face value of RM1, RM10 and RM100 are now on sale at post offices, selected outlets and Royal Mint offices.

The commemorative stamps, meanwhile, reflect this year’s summit theme of “One Vision, One Identity, One Community” with the Petronas Twin Towers as their backdrop.

Abdullah, when opening the exhibition held in conjunction with the Asean and East Asia summits, urged countries in the region to focus on the establishment of business and trade friendly environments in the face of mounting challenges posed by a globalised world.

Industries and the manufacturing sector in the region, he said, were already sourcing from one another and had established strong links.

“Small and medium-scale industries should capitalise on this to be part of the supply chain by actively seeking opportunities to produce, trade and distribute finished goods and components.

“This can be the foundation for further integration of industries in the region,” he added.

The exhibition which will be on until Thursday showcases over 200 companies from the 16 countries participating in the first East Asia Summit.
