KULIM: A group of about 40 youths on motorcycles attacked a police patrol car after six of their friends were detained during a raid in Jalan Tunku Putra here.

Kulim OCPD Supt Abdul Majid Hashim said the police car was damaged when the rocks thrown by youths smashed the side window.

He said a CID team in three patrol cars had been despatched earlier to the location after receiving complaints from residents that a group of youths were making a nuisance of themselves with their stunts on motorcycles.

The policemen, he said, managed to seize four motorcycles that had been illegally modified and detain six youths, aged between 17 and 19.

The rest of the group managed to speed off, he added.

Supt Abdul Majid said about 40 youths returned on motorcycles with stones in hand as the police was about to leave the scene.

“They hurled the stones at one of the patrol cars, smashing its side window,” he told reporters at the Kulim police headquarters yesterday.

Supt Abdul Majid said the six have since been remanded.

He said one of them, an SPM candidate, will be released today so that he could sit for the examination.

Those detained would be charged for reckless riding, he said.
