PUTRAJAYA: Nomination for the Pengkalan Pasir by-election in Kelantan is on Nov 27 and polling will be on Dec 6 if there is a contest, Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said Monday.
So far, PAS and Barisan Nasional (Barisan) have said they would field candidates.
There are 45 seats in the Kelantan state assembly. Of this, Pas holds 23 seats, while Barisan has 21 seats.
The Pengakalan Pasir seat fell vacant after the death of PAS state assemblyman Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Jaafar on Oct 31. He died of liver cancer.
In the last general election, Wan Abdul Aziz collected 7,168 votes, beating Barisan's Hanafi Mamat by 55 votes.
Rashid told a press conference that those who had registered by June 30 would be eligible to vote. This means there are 18,411 eligible voters for the by-election.
Voting will be conducted at nine polling stations, Rashid said.
