MIRI: Prices of new houses could surge by 30% under the build-and-sell concept, said Sarawak Housing Developers Association.
Developers would have no choice but to increase the price due to additional overhead costs of 20% to 30%, said association chairman William Wei.
“The build and sell concept will result in developers incurring extra charges in having to bring in raw materials into the state in bulk.
“The costs of hiring and purchasing construction machineries have also gone up,” he said after the launch of a state housing roadshow by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam here.
The Housing and Local Government Ministry said it was proposing the concept to protect house buyers.
Under the concept, house buyers would have more choices and not lose out through abandoned projects.
