WHAT newly-crowned British Open champion Nicol David should get for her achievement set off a short exchange between Lim Kit Siang (DAP – Ipoh Timor) and Youth and Sports Ministry parliamentary secretary S. Vigneswaran.

Urging the Dewan Rakyat to acknowledge the national squash player's achievement, Lim asked how the ministry planned to reward her.

Vigneswaran said his minister was “faster than the Opposition Leader” and had already telephoned Nicol the previous day to congratulate her.

Lim then retorted: “A telephone call? Is that all?”

However, the parliamentary secretary ignored the remark and sat down.

Stockpiling Tamiflu

STOCKPILING of the antiviral Tamiflu drug to protect Malaysians from the avian influenza has been identified as one of the Health Ministry's preparedness plans.

Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said the ministry would stockpile the antiviral medication in stages.

“The ministry will stockpile enough antiviral drugs for 25% of the population, or six million people.

“This is recommended by the World Health Organisation,” he said when winding up for Budget 2006 at policy stage.
