Getting alerts out faster

KUALA LUMPUR: It requires 15 minutes to alert our Science, Tech- nology and Innovations Minister of an earthquake but all it takes is 20 seconds for the Japanese public to be warned. 

This was disclosed at a session of the Global Information Infrastruc- ture Commission (GIIC) working group on Information and Commu- nication Technologies for Natural Disaster Mitigation here yesterday.
