BOLLYWOOD screen idol Amitabh Bachchan will be acting in a Tamil movie for the first time in his long and illustrious film career, Tamil Nesan and Malaysia Nanban reported.

He will play the role of a no-nonsense police officer in the film Police which will be directed by actor Thiagarajan.

Prasanth will take the lead role while Jeyapradha will play Bachchan's assistant in the film which is expected to draw in the crowds when it is released next year.

The reports said that it had always been Bachchan's dream to act in at least one Tamil movie in his lifetime.

On another matter, Tamil Nesan reported a call to young Indian Malaysians to rally behind the nation in celebrating its 48th year of independence.

Malaysia Tamil Youth Bell Club president M. Ponniah was quoted as saying that the young should celebrate the occasion with patriotism, pride and happiness.
