SEPANG: Two men were detained on Saturday in connection with the escape of a drug trafficker from China from the KL International Airport's Immigration Detention Centre.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said the suspects, in their 40s, were arrested in Sungai Besi and Kuchai Lama.

“One of them is in the direct sales line and the other in the travel agency business,” he said.

The men were among eight people, including six Immigration officers, who had been detained to assist in investigations.

Last Wednesday, Chai Qinghai @ Qiu Liang Jie, in his late 30s, escaped by walking through two perimeter fencing at the centre which was equipped with closed-circuit television cameras.

His disappearance was discovered during a 7am roll call.
