WHAT A RELIEF: (Aug 12) After 10 days of the choking haze, it was a welcome relief for millions of Klang Valley folks when the sun broke through and blue skies could be seen on Friday afternoon. The situation in Port Klang and Kuala Selangor – the two areas that were placed under Haze Emergency –and all areas recorded great improvement, with none in the hazardous level. However, the change in wind direction brought the haze to the northern region of the peninsula. At 3pm, Penang Bridge was barely visible in the thick haze.

EPF WIFE BOOST: (Aug 7) In recognition of the role of housewives as homemakers, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has allowed husbands to make contributions to accounts under their wives' names. This move is aimed at providing the housewives some financial security in their old age and also prevent them from being left in the lurch should their spouses desert them. The EPF said it would embark on a campaign to educate housewives on this provision so that they could encourage their husbands to make the contributions. This could be done through the EPF's self-employed contribution scheme by completing the KWSP 16D form.
