KUALA LUMPUR: If you are 15 years old or younger, and have been harbouring the dream to excel in athletics, now is the time to act.

The Youth and Sports Ministry is now searching for youths who have the burning desire and talent to become the country’s next generation of athletes.

Its minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said said the number of athletes in the country was insufficient to compete in the international arena.

“We do not have enough athletes. We only have a small pool of them like Nicol David and Shalin Zulkifli and we need more.

“The ministry will be going all out in search of new talent among the youths,” she said yesterday after launching the Cari Champion programme, which saw almost 800 youths participating in the talent search.

The participants were tested on their strengths and also checked on their body mass to identify which of the sports they had chosen were best suited for them.
