KOTA KINABALU: The MCA has met Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to convey the community’s sentiments on national development.

Party president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said he and three ministers met Najib after the Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya on Wednesday.

The ministers are MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy (Transport), Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn (Human Resources) and Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek (Health).

“We will support anything which is good, fair, relevant and effective in this era of rapid globalisation,” he said when opening the Sabah state convention.

“Any approach taken in national development should be able to improve the competence of locals and not be restrictive,” Ong said.

He added that MCA would not agree with anything which was obsolete.

He asserted that MCA would not just talk without any action.

“As MCA president, I can tell you that MCA leaders do not enjoy any personal benefit. We serve the party and community and bring development to the people and nation and can walk with our heads up,” said Ong, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister.

Sabah MCA chairman Datuk Edward Khoo, in his speech earlier, said Ong and Chan were young, capable and talented and had done a good job in the last 26 months.
