PETALING JAYA: Deputy Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin has no interest in the automobile business but he found himself linked to the approved permit (AP) issue.
He dismissed speculation that he had some 500 APs.
“I have never applied for or received any AP. I have never been given or offered an AP nor have I ever been interested in such a business.
“If you go through the list, you will not see my name on it, not by proxy or anything like that ? nothing,” he said.
He described the speculation as attempts by “desperadoes to discredit me.”
Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang called for the setting up of a parliamentary select committee to investigate the “18-year AP mess.”
He urged Cabinet ministers to declare support for publication of all previous AP lists.
“I find myself in strange company with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in taking up the call for the release of the AP list for 2004 as the 2005 one is incomplete,” he said in a statement.
Lim said Dr Mahathir had raised many questions on International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz's competence and integrity.
