KUALA LUMPUR: The West Asian media went to town with the story of the 10-year-old Kuwaiti boy who was waylaid and sodomised in a hotel toilet here last month, prompting our tourism officials to take “damage control” measures.
Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the newspaper reports portrayed Malaysia as unsafe for tourists, especially children, and this had caused a slight dip in tourist arrivals from that region.
