KOTA BARU: A Sessions Court here jailed and fined two policemen for accepting a RM200 bribe in Tumpat three years ago to ignore a diesel smuggling attempt.

Judge Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh sentenced L/Kpl Saifuddin Abdullah, 35, to six months' jail and fined him the maximum of RM10,000 or in default six months' jail; and L/Kpl Fakri Mat Adam, 41, to 14 days' jail and also a fine of RM10,000 or in default six months’ jail.

Both the policemen were found guilty of accepting the bribe as an inducement for not taking action against four men smuggling 200 barrels of diesel in Kampung Simpangan in Tumpat on Aug 19, 2002.

Anti-Corruption Agency prosecuting officer Amir Hamzah Idris requested the court to deliver a heavy penalty, saying that as policemen the accused should not have condoned the activity. – Bernama
