KUALA LUMPUR: The first direct elections of DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) office bearers this Sunday will see straight fights for three key posts, and no contest for national secretary.

Dapsy national secretary Loke Siew Fook was returned unopposed after his challenger, Penang Dapsy secretary Lai Hon Meng, withdrew his candidacy.

Loke received nominations to contest the chairman and deputy chairman’s posts, but withdrew to concentrate on his national secretary’s post, which he has held since 2002.

Incumbent Dapsy chairman Nga Kor Ming, who is Pantai Remis state assemblyman, is being challenged by Malacca deputy chairman Goh Leong San, who is the Bandar Hilir state assemblyman.

Incumbent deputy chairman Tan Hun Wooi will defend his post against vice-chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who is MP for Bandar Kuching.

There are three candidates for the two vice-chairmen's posts – Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan, Dapsy treasurer Su Keong Siong, and Johor Dapsy chief Tan Chen Choon.

Fong automatically clinched a vice-chairman's post because the Dapsy constitution requires one of the two vice-chairmen to be a woman.
