KUANTAN: Cows were found wandering on the East Coast Expressway near Temerloh because the barriers had been stolen, police said.

State CID chief Acting Asst Comm T. Narenasagaran said the theft was believed to have been committed between June 18 and 26.

He said a supervisor of the highway concessionaire reported that 700 bars were missing when he conducted a routine check between Km115 and Km119 of the highway.

Work is under way to replace the barriers.

Recently, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob advised cattle owners not to bring their cows near the highway because the cows might cross the road and cause accidents.

Police also received a report from a 28-year-old teacher that he was robbed of his handphone worth RM800 by two men on a motorcycle about 8.30am on Tuesday at the tennis courts near the Teluk Chempedak recreational area here.

ACP Narenasagaran said police would beef up security at the place to prevent snatch thefts and to ensure the area is safe for joggers.
