KUANTAN: DNA tests have confirmed that the skeletal remains found in a torched Honda CRV in the Felcra Kampung Ubai oil palm plantation on Monday were those of Kim Kee Hardware Sdn Bhd sales manager Chong Wing Hoe.
State CID chief Acting ACP Narenasagaran Thangaveloo said the case, initially classified as sudden death, would be reclassified as murder because medical evidence indicated that Chong was already dead when the car was torched.
No carbon monoxide particles and soot were found in the tissues police had sent to the Chemistry Department and the Cheras police academy laboratory.
“Now that we have confirmed the identity of the deceased, we will try to uncover the motive for the murder from the leads that we have,” said ACP Narenasagaran.
He urged anyone who knew Chong or had seen him between 11.30am and 2pm on Monday to help police in their investigation.
Chong was last seen driving the Honda CRV bearing the registration number CBE 8399.
One of those interviewed by police had seen him driving in the Air Putih area at 11.30am and driving in town about an hour later on Monday.
Those with information can contact ACP Narenasagaran at 09-590 2222 or the nearest police station.
