MALAYSIA is not satisfied with the outcome of United States' military enquiry report over allegations that several US soldiers had mishandled the al-Quran at the Guantanamo Bay prison facility in Cuba.

Foreign Ministry parliamentary-secretary Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said Malaysia, which is also the Organisation of Islamic Conference chairman, wanted the United States to set up an independent body to investigate the matter.

“It is illogical for the military to make its own report on the allegations since its veracity can be questioned,” he told Ahmad Shaberi Cheek (BN– Kemaman).

Zainal Abidin said the report, released on June 3, confirmed five cases of the mishandling of the al-Quran at the prison.

He also said that Malaysia urged the United States to not be lenient in punishing the culprits.
