SHAH ALAM: Police ransacked the house of fugitive Michael Soosai’s wife and carted away three lorry loads of belongings, including 12kg of jewellery, and confiscated her Perodua Kelisa and two motorcycles, the Sessions Court heard.
S. Kumari, 39, said police raided her house in Kota Kemuning in April while she was not in.
“Everything was taken, including pots and pans, cutlery and even the fridge. More importantly, these seized items have no connection with the two charges brought against Kumari,” her lawyer Gerard Lazarus told the court yesterday.
Lazarus said Kumari faced charges of using a forged death certificate of her husband and cheating a deputy public prosecutor.
He said there were no grounds to seize her assets, and he would file an application to recover the items.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Azmi Ariffin said the confiscation of Kumari’s belongings could be linked to other cases, to which Lazarus said his client faced only two charges.
Judge Suraya Othman said: “As far as I know, total confiscation is done for certain drug cases only.”
She told both parties to resolve the matter, failing which she would decide on July 8 on the request to return the items to Kumari.
Kumari claimed trial last month to producing a false certificate of Soosai’s death on Sept 25, 2003, at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
She also denied cheating DPP Salehuddin Saidin at the State Legal Adviser’s office here on Oct 1, 2003, when she submitted the death certificate to get the court to withdraw several fraud charges against Soosai.
Judge Suraya said she might have to discharge herself from hearing the case because she could be called to testify as the first offence involved her court.
