PETALING JAYA: Pornographic videos of unsuspecting young girls in intimate situations are being distributed via mobile phones throughout the country, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil

“It's disgusting and terrible. These pictures are being taken by those they (young girls) know and trust without their knowledge.

“I'm worried about what drastic action these girls might take should they find out that these pictures are being distributed,” she said yesterday.

Shahrizat urged the Multimedia and Communications Commission to work with the Attorney-General's chambers to charge the offenders and help curb the abuse.

“We must use the laws at our disposal to send a strong message that such disgusting activities are not to be taken lightly,” she said during the 6th Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Week conference launching ceremony at The Tropics shopping mall in Damansara Perdana here

The two-day event was launched by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday.

Speaking to reporters later, Rosmah urged parents to discuss sexual abuse and the dangers of pornographic materials with their children as early as possible.
