Five more bodies of boat crash victims found

KUCHNG: The bodies of five persons who were missing when a trawler sank in Sungai Sirah in Pusa, Betong, on Friday have been recovered. 

Betong OCPD Deputy Supt Musliman Haslie said four of the bodies were found in the trawler, which was hauled up during low tide, while the fifth body was found ashore at about 3.30pm yesterday. 

The five dead are Sabariah Sari, 30, her two children Mohd Rizal Morshidi, 11, and Masitam, two, Sepiah Talib, 30, and her son Nazrul Hakimi Majidi, nine.  

DSP Musliman said the bodies had been claimed by their families for burial in Kampung Beladin.  

The bodies of two others, Zaidi Seli, 13, and Elina Othman, 20, who drowned in the mishap were recovered earlier. 

There were 16 people on board when the trawler sank after colliding with a sand-laden barge. Nine of them managed to swim to safety.
