MALACCA: A vacation club member, who did not get to stay in a hotel under the club as promised, was granted a refund of RM500 by a Consumer Claims Tribunal.
Mohd Nazri Arifin, 32, a computer engineer, joined the Heritage Grand Vacation Club last year.
Tribunal chairman Jailani Rahman ordered the club to pay Mohd Nazri and cancel the agreement between both parties.
Jailani, however, said the club could keep the remaining RM1,139 paid by Mohd Nazri.
Mohd Nazri, who paid a deposit of RM1,000 on July 24 last year to the club, and continued paying a monthly instalment of RM213 for a 35-year membership worth RM9,800, had wanted to stay in a hotel under the club for his honeymoon on Aug 25, either in Penang or Cameron Highlands.
However, he was told that there was no room available.
I told the agent to find me a hotel under the club where I could get a room. I was offered the Pacific Hotel in Kuantan instead and I was told that it was worth RM100 a night, he said.
Mohd Nazri said he then called up his friends in Kuantan to enquire about the hotel and was told that a room at the Pacific Hotel cost only between RM50 and RM60 a night.
Under the vacation club package, I was told that I would get a hotel room priced between RM300 and RM500, he said.
Mohd Nazri said he decided not to go to Kuantan but drove to Cameron Highlands instead and managed to get a room at the Heritage Hotel there.
