PENANG: The Penang Prison, one of the oldest in the country, will be converted into a medical prison for chronically ill inmates under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.
Deputy Internal Security Minister Chia Kwang Chye said the proposed centre, believed to be the first of its kind in South-East Asia, would be dedicated to inmates who were chronically ill and those suffering from infectious diseases such as AIDS and tuberculosis.
