KOTA KINABALU: Thousands of people returned to their coastal homes after spending a night on higher ground in various parts of Sabah following a four-hour tsunami alert.
Many had gone home as soon as police stood down the alert at 1am but some panic-stricken residents fearing that the tsunami waves were heading towards Sabah decided to stay put at mosques, churches and houses on hilltops.
