KUALA LUMPUR: Business tycoon Datuk Syed Ibrahim Syed Mohamed (pic) was found dead with gunshot wounds at his home in the affluent Bukit Tunku area here yesterday.
Family members of the 55-year-old multimillionaire, who was indirectly linked to several public-listed companies, were away from his posh double-storey house when the incident occurred.
It is learnt that his maid was doing housework when she heard a gunshot from the study upstairs.
Sources said the maid, in her 30s, saw her employer squatting in his study, but he refused to allow her into the room.
Suspecting something amiss, she ran out of the house and sought help from two utility company technicians doing repair work.
The maid ran back into the house after she heard another gunshot, and she found Syed Ibrahim face down in the swimming pool.
A police patrol car went to the house after the Sentul district police headquarters got a call from Syed Ibrahims son, Kapt Syed Asri, at 3.20pm.
Syed Ibrahim was taken to KL Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm A. Thaiveegan said police were ruling out foul play and were waiting for the post-mortem report.
Sources close to the family said Syed Ibrahim had been behaving strangely over the past few days and skipping meals.
Many of his friends expressed shock over his death.
They described him as a friendly and bubbly person.
A student of the Royal Military College between 1966 and 1969, Syed Ibrahim was an accountant by profession.
He was also a Justice of the Peace and trustee of the Royal Military College Old Putera Association.
