PETALING JAYA: Students can look forward to a year filled with exciting contests and more pizza rewards for this year’s Newspaper-In-Education (NiE) programme, thanks to The Star-Pizza Hut tie-up once again.

As The Star’s partner in NiE, Pizza Hut has pledged more than RM3mil in prizes and sponsorship for a host of activities, including an exciting contest and teacher and student workshops, aimed at raising the standard of English among students.

Pizza Hut deputy president C. W. Toh said: “We have decided to come in as The Star’s partner again because we have seen the benefits of NiE in the classroom.

“The programme is fantastic and we acknowledge the effort of The Star in trying to improve English proficiency among students. With the weekly NiE pullout this year, students will have more activities and more chances to redeem rewards from Pizza Hut.

“Most of all, we are only too happy to reward genuine efforts with genuine rewards!”

The Star-NiE supplement is now published weekly on Wednesdays. The first, second and fourth Wednesday issues will only be available to schools which subscribe to The Star-NiE. However, the supplement on the third Wednesday of every month will be distributed nationwide with every copy of The Star.

Instead of just focusing on activities for English lessons as in the past, there will be one pullout for Mathematics (second Wednesday) and one for Science (fourth Wednesday) each month.

The first NiE weekly supplement featuring Mathematic activities was published last week.

In total, there will be 11 national issues and 26 issues distributed only to schools.

The bonus with the NiE supplement is an eight-page Stuff@school pullout on school-related issues and goings-on in schools and the community.

Please call the customer care unit of The Star at 03-7967 1777 between 9am and 5.30pm from Monday to Friday for assistance.
