PETALING JAYA: The Dewan Rakyat will sit on Jan 17-18 to table amendments that will include joint management of water resources by the federal and state governments.

At present, each state manages its own water resources and needs.

Later at a press conference in Subang Jaya yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said other proposed amendments would include raising the retirement age of civil servants from 55 to 56.

Mohd Nazri also said Kemaman MP Ahmad Shabery Cheek would be tabling a motion on the tsunami tragedy during the sitting to record the MPs' condolences. The Dewan Negara would sit on Jan 19, he added.

These amendments would be made under the Federal Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2004 and would be tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad.

It was reported that the Bill also covered amendments that would provide for judges to retire at 66 instead of 65 now.

It also covered conservation to allow the Federal Government to help every state preserve heritage resources.
