PETALING JAYA: “Flora’s great, Flora’s smart. With Flora no one can compare. Flora’s tummy in Triumph in the Skies is smaller than Bobby’s in my eyes, so Flora should win and that’s fair.”

This was the impromptu poem recited in Cantonese by Wan Wai Chin, 29, one of two fans who took up the challenge of praising either Hong Kong TVB artiste Bobby Au Yeung or Flora Chan during a meet-the-fans session at the SS2 car park near the wet market here yesterday morning.

Au Yeung laughed at Wan’s spontaneity and said: “I lost at the expense of my protruding stomach.”

Wan said she has been a Chan fan for a very long time.

FAN-TASTIC RESPONSE: Hong Kong stars Au Yeung and Chan getting up close with their fans during the meet-the-fans session and promotional tour at the SS2 car park Sunday.

“She’s such a great actress and I’m really moved by her acting. She can make me cry along with her,” she added after the game.

Another fan, Ruby Khoo said Au Yeung was one of the funniest Hong Kong actors.

“Although I’m not fluent in Cantonese and rely on the subtitles, I still manage to laugh along as he pulls it off with his flawless talent and humour,” she said.

About 200 fans gathered at the car park, some arriving as early as 7am, to catch a glimpse of the stars who were in town as Astro’s special guests for the launch of the Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards 2004 held last night.

Both artistes arrived at 8.45am and Au Yeung greeted the crowd in Cantonese saying: “What are you all doing here this early in the morning? Waiting for us?”

Chan said: “Perhaps they are actually here to do their marketing.”

The jovial Au Yeung continued to crack up the fans with some help from Chan before playing two games with fans and then heading off to another meet-the-fans session.

Au Yeung and Chan are also here to promote two drama series, to be aired on Astro Wah Lai Toi this month.

Armed Reaction IV, starring Au Yeung, will be screened at 8.30pm from Dec 16 while Triumph in the Skies, at 9.30pm from Dec 30, with Chan as the leading lady.

Voting for the Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards 2004 began yesterday. Fans have nine categories to vote for, including favourite character, drama, villain, on screen kiss and slap.

Those interested can vote via SMS or phone (03-2170 6332) from Monday to Sunday between 4pm and 8pm.

The results will be revealed during the awards ceremony to be held on Jan 8 and will be aired live on Astro Wah Lai Toi (Channel 30).
