PENANG: The Roman Catholic Church’s plan to exhume graves at the St Francis Xavier Church at Penang Road to create a children’s playground for the St Joseph’s Home has been scrapped.
A smaller playground will, however, be built on a vacant area within the cemetery without exhuming the 204 graves that include tombs of pioneer Sisters of the Infant Jesus nuns who arrived in 1852 and founded Convent Light Street nearby.
