ALOR GAJAH: The neighbourhood children never fail to visit retired soldier Abu Samah Abd Jalil and his wife Norkiah Othman during Hari Raya at their home in Batu 15½, Kampung Paya Datuk.

They would come in their best baju Melayu and baju kurung to offer greetings.

In return the couple would hand out duit Raya.

“It is really wonderful to see the kids dressed in baju Melayu and baju kurung visiting us besides having over our own grown-up children and relatives,” said Abu Samah.

Abu Samah's seven siblings and their children and those from his wife's side have made it a point to celebrate Raya at his home.

“They prefer to spend Raya celebration with us for a family reunion and an occasion to visit relatives and friends,” he said adding that the day was made more joyous with other visitors from the neighbourhood.
