Priest gunned down by gift bearer outside his house

SEREMBAN: A priest who was returning home from a Deepavali dinner early yesterday morning saw two men with a gift hamper outside his house in Taman AST here. 

As N. Seran walked towards them, the man carrying the hamper dumped it and took out a semi-automatic pistol.  

He pumped two bullets into the 42-year-old priest and fled on a motorcycle with his accomplice. 

Seran fell to the ground and died at the Columbia Asia Medical Centre here several hours after relatives rushed him to the hospital. 

OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Abdullah said Seran was shot in his stomach and neck. 

He said Seran and two relatives had gone out to a Deepavali dinner and had just returned home when they saw two men at the entrance of his house.  

The relatives, who were in a car, said they heard two gunshots and when they rushed to Seran's side he was bleeding from his wounds.  

Police found two .9mm slugs at the scene. 

ACP Mohamad said police have classified the case as murder and was investigating the motive behind the killing.  

Seran's remains have been sent to the Seremban Hospital for a post-mortem.
