GOVT REVOKES PR: (Oct 3) The Home Ministry has revoked the permanent resident (PR) status of 16 suspected Jemaah Islamiah (JI) members. A ministry spokesman said the decision to revoke their PR status was based on investigations by the police Special Branch but declined to name them.

ETV FAILURE: (Oct 5) The Education Television (ETV) programme, which costs the Government millions of ringgit each year, has failed to meet its objective because most schools are not using the facility. According to the Auditor-General’s Report 2003, most schools do not watch ETV for reasons ranging from faulty equipment to the programmes clashing with the timetable.
