KUALA LUMPUR: Seven main factors have been outlined as reasons the crime rate in Malaysia has increased over the last 20 years.
They are – unemployment, migration of youth from rural to urban areas, the influx of illegal immigrants, failure in rehabilitating drug addicts, shortage of police personnel and vehicles to combat crime, the public’s pathetic attitude and the failure by town planning committees to consider setting up police stations or for local councils to stress on safety features in the city.
