IPOH: A lorry driver spotted a leopard which appeared near his house in Taman Kanthan Jaya, Chemor, near here, yesterday.

M. Sebastian, 50, who has been living there for the past seven years, had the encounter while returning home from the market at 10am.

He ordered his children and grandchildren into the house, before reporting the matter to the police.

Sebastian, who spotted the leopard about 15m away in an oil palm plantation near his home, said this was the first time a wild animal had appeared there.

He feared the animal might attack children and other people outside his house.

A spokesman at the Kanthan police station said he had contacted the National Parks and Wildlife Department to look into the matter.

The Fire and Rescue Department also sent a team to catch the leopard but it had already disappeared. – Bernama
