Horror flick wins three awards

FUKUOKA: Malaysian horror flick Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam did the country proud when it won three awards including Best Director at the Film Este Pona Fantasi & Horor in Malaga, Spain. 

The film, which was directed by Shuhaimi Baba, also won the Best Cinematography and Best Music awards at the festival, which was held from Sept 13 to 18. 

Pesona Pictures executive director Mahyidin Mustakim, who told the press here, said Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam was picked from among seven movies, which were shortlisted from a total of 70 entries. 

Mahyidin, who is representing Pesona Pictures at the 49th Asia Pacific Film Festival here, said Shuhaimi was in Spain along with her crew Aida Fitri Buyong and Ibrahim Elyas. 

“I am thrilled with Shuhaimi’s success and hope that Pontianak will also win a few awards here,” he said yesterday. 

Also present with Mahyidin were leading actresses of Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam – Maya Karin and Ida Nerina. 

He said Shuhaimi also promoted Malaysia to other film producers as an ideal film location.
