KUALA TERENGGANU: “Please publicise my contact numbers so that my constituents can call me whenever they have any problems. My cellphone number is 019-936 0122 and my service centre number, 09-681 6889.”
This was the request by new Kuala Berang assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ismail, 45, when met by reporters after his swearing-in ceremony here yesterday.
“I have time to attend to the people’s problems because I’m not a minister or a state executive councillor who has lots of responsibilities,” he said.
Mohd Zawawi took his oath before state assembly speaker Datuk Che Mat Jusoh. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and State Secretary Datuk Muhatar Abdullah witnessed the ceremony.
Also present were Mohd Zawawi 's wife Salina Musa, 34, and son Mohd Azfar Syafiq, nine.
In the Aug 28 by-election, Mohd Zawawi defeated Muhyiddin Abdul Rashid, 43, of PAS by a 2,059-vote majority.
The former sports supervisor at the Hulu Terengganu district education office obtained 6,051 votes compared with agro-entrepreneur Muhyiddin's 3,992 votes.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Komaruddin Abdul Rahman on July 30.
Mohd Zawawi pledged to bring more development to Kuala Berang, saying almost 80% of the people there were poor.
“I have in mind some projects to increase their income,” he added.
